Our Journey

L. A. Daiku is a renowned both men and women choir based in Los Angeles that was established in 2009. Dr. Jeffrey Bernstein, a top ranked community chorus director in the US., has been leading L. A. Daiku's and its signature piece is Beethoven's Symphony No.9 (Daiku in Japanese) that extols the brotherhood of all peoples.  Members are committed to creating a unique and unforgettable musical experience. With years of experience and a passion for their art, they bring total melodic unison to every performance. But that's not all. We also strive to support gifted young singers and our local community. 

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR 

Jeffrey Bernstein

Dr. Jeffrey Bernstein is a top ranked community chorus director in US, and he has been leading L.A. Daiku as an artistic director since 2009. He is also artistic and executive director of the Pasadena Chorale. 

 

An active composer Bernstein composed the symphonic poem Dreams of Japan for the Tokushima Symphony, was premiered by the orchestra and subsequently performed in Los Angeles,  Fukushima Requiem, composed in response to the Tohoku tsunami disaster has been performed several times in America and Japan.   He has become the first American to lead the annual concert of  Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Naruto, Japan, the city where the work was first heard in Asia and conducting over 300 performers in an all-Beethoven program in the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

A committed educator and advocate for children, Bernstein teaches a the Pasadena Waldorf School.  He resides in Altadena, CA, ensuring that all are able to attend, and encouraging the generous support of those who are able.
